Once again, she checked her phone hoping to see a message from him, but to her disappointment, there was none. Her tears started falling until it turns into a loud sob. She was furious, hurt and broken. She was crying there when it started raining. She felt like she was in some kind of a movie wherein she was the protagonist but she didn’t get her happy ending.
When she looked around her, she saw the pitiful look on people’s faces while staring at her. She felt humiliated, she stood up, went out and ran. She didn’t care that she was getting wet in the rain, she ran as fast as she could as if trying to escape from something impossible to escape from. She was trapped…with nowhere to go.
The days felt like torture for her. She loathed every waking moment because it meant she had to bear another day without him, and it was slowly killing her. Her family was the only constant reminder that she had to survive this obstacle, and she should not give up, for them and for herself.
So, with renewed strength and courage, she tried to move forward. She tried to be strong and be able to live day by day, knowing that these hardships would pass. Nothing is permanent in this world, after all. Yes, even pain.
And little by little, she was able to move forward. She was able to make herself believe that she could live and be happy again without him, so she did.
But little did she know that this newly-found happiness was short-lived. Just when she thought that she was already okay, she found out that he was with someone new, and they seemed happy. And right there and then, she didn’t know that there were still pieces of her heart that could be broken. At an instant, he managed to turn her world upside down once again.
She cried and cried until she ran out of tears to shed. She screamed until she could only whisper. And when she was done, it left her thinking..”What am I doing to myself? I don’t deserve this.” She fixed up her tear-streaked face and promised herself that she would work hard on being whole again, that she would never let him or anyone break her again.
Some nights, she cried herself to sleep but in the morning, she faced the world fiercely with a strong determination that it would all be over and she would feel the calm after the chaos.
And as if the gods have heard her, she has learned to let go and be someone who makes her happy. She felt contented and fulfilled. She knew that she was not there yet but she was almost at the end of this journey and she couldn't wait to see what is waiting for her at the finish line.
However, the universe seemed to enjoy playing a sick joke on her. He came back. He tried to win her back. He said, “If you love someone, you’ll always come back.” But boy he was wrong. If you truly love someone, you’ll never leave in the first place.
Maybe she still loves him, but is it enough? Maybe she still cares for him, but is he worth it? Are they meant to be together? Or are they just meant to cross each other's paths to learn a lesson?
Will she be his one that got away? Or Is she willing to stay?
