What Filipinos should know about Hongkong?8

I've wrapped up all the things that you should know to maximize your Hongkong adventure! 😉

TIPS: Research the places you want to visit and book the accommodation and activities prior to the trip to avoid inconvenience.

I. Departure

 A. You can purchase cheap flight tickets to Hongkong in Cebu Pacific and Airasia. They usually have promo fares depending on the day you're planning to go there. You also need to pay a travel tax amounting to Php1,620/person.

 B. Eventhough Hongkong doesn't require VISA for Filipinos, you still have to go through immigration so make sure to prepare the following documents:

  1. Certification of your leave of absence

  2. Certificate of Employment

  3. Return Ticket

  4. Passport

  5. Itinerary

Some immigration officers just look for your return ticket and passport but it's better to be ready than sorry. Those documents may come in handy.

 C. Baggage

Here are some reminders on what you should and shouldn't bring when you travel.

  1. Water or any liquid is not allowed at the boarding gate.

  2. Perfume that is 100ml or more and that is flammable is not allowed.

  3. Bring Eco bag

  4. Bring good running/hiking shoes

  5. Bring umbrella

IMPORTANT: During the flight, you will be given an arrival and a departure slip to Hongkong, you must keep it and handle it with care.

II. Arrival

In my opinion, it's better to bring money in USD and change it to HKD when you get to Hongkong, but if you prefer to bring HKD, you may do so. It's also advisable to buy simcard with Internet connection in Hongkong, this will be useful when you have to look for location of the places you want to go to (use GPS), translate something or share your pictures in social media.

Note: You can book your accommodation in Airbnb for cheaper options. Research the exact location of your accommodation and the establishments nearby so you know how to get there. You might have to walk a lot so prepare your good pair of shoes.

 A.Transportation

When you get to the airport, buy an Octopus Card for 150 HKD. You can use this card to ride the subway and bus, to pay in the supermarket, coffee shops and even at some fast food outlets! It's very convenient.

B. Food

  1. Most restaurants don't have menu in English so you can just refer to the pictures unless you can read Chinese.

  2. Research for the cheap restaurants located near your accommodation prior to the trip to maximize your budget.

  3. Master the art of using chopsticks because most restaurants don't offer you spoon and fork.

  4. A lot of restaurants serve free hot tea with their meals. So if you don't like tea, bring your own bottle of water.

  5. If you want to spend less, you can try their streetfood. It can be found almost anywhere around Hongkong.

 C. Tourist Spots/Activities

When you get to Hongkong, you should visit the following famous attractions. For the list of activities for cheaper prices, you can purchase tickets online at https://www.klook.com/

Hongkong Disneyland

Night Market

Peak Tram Pass/Highest 360° point

Stanley Bay

3-D Museum

Horse Racing

 D. Shopping

There are outlets of different brands everywhere. You have a lot of selections to choose from. If you're looking for pasalubong items that are cheaper, night market is your best bet and remember to practice the art of bargaining. Though, you just have to be patient because you have to do a lot of walking that's why it's important to bring a good pair of shoes.

Note: Take as many pictures as you want but don't forget to enjoy each moment. 😉
